Honda Accord most favored car among vehicle thieves

For the third year in a row the Honda Accord topped the list of cars stolen and recovered most often in 2012, according to a report by LoJack Corp.

The report includes data from LoJack’s recovery system, from data in 27 states. Nearly $125 million in stolen vehicles were recovered during 2012 using this device, according to the company.

The Accord was favored by thieves in both the new car category and for all vehicles overall. For some reason, black was the most favored color stolen while blue was the least favored by thieves.

The oldest vehicle recovered was a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. The most expensive was a 2009 Bentley Brooklands worth $209,600.

“According to the most recent reports from the FBI, a vehicle is stolen every 44 seconds.  Today’s report data reveals that cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with LoJack devices were recovered 94 percent of the time in 2012,” Patrick Clancy, LoJack’s vice president of law enforcement, said in a statement.

For vehicles of all ages, the following were the top 10 “most stolen and recovered” vehicles in 2012:

1. Honda Accord

2. Honda Civic

3. Toyota Camry

4. Acura Integra

5. Toyota Corolla

6. Chevy Silverado

7. Cadillac Escalade

8. Nissan Maxima

9. Nissan Altima

10. Chevy Tahoe

“The findings released today in the LoJack Vehicle Theft Recovery Report prove two things: today’s thieves are highly skilled professionals and that the LoJack recovery device can be highly effective in thwarting their attempts,” Clancy said.

Among new vehicles, stolen and recovered vehicles equipped with a LoJack device in 2012 included:

1. Honda Accord

2. Ford F-250 Pickup

3. Toyota Camry

4. Toyota Corolla

5. Honda Civic
