Health insurance costs rose for family policies

high insurance costOne option that workers may choose when trying to protect their family is getting health insurance, although costs are on the rise.

According to a recent survey from financial research firms the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust, health insurance costs rose 14 percent this year to almost $4,000 annually.

This is despite the fact that premiums increased only 3 percent. Drew Altman, Kaiser president and CEO, says that businesses have been putting more of the costs for health insurance onto workers.

While this may be keeping premiums low, it also means that the policies offered through employers feature coverage that is not as comprehensive.

“From a consumer perspective, the cost of health insurance just keeps going up faster than wages,” Altman says.

Having health coverage is one way that consumers can make sure they maintain their well-being.

By staying healthier, consumers may find that they get access to better life insurance premiums. This type of policy can protect families by providing a source of funds in the event that a primary income earner passes away.
